About CAICB: the Canadian Artificial Intelligence Certification Bureau is an independent Canadian not-for-profit. We set a clear, rigorous bar for how organizations build and use artificial intelligence, and we prepare them to meet it.
Why CAICB Exists
Artificial intelligence now shapes how Canadian organizations hire, lend, diagnose and decide. Meanwhile, the rules that govern it are tightening at home and abroad. CAICB exists so that Canadian organizations can show, with evidence, that their AI is safe, fair and accountable.
To do that, we focus on three things: AI compliance readiness, practical education, and a Security & Ethics Enhanced Certification that is now in development.
How CAICB Is Led
CAICB separates direction from expertise. The Founder and Chair sets direction, protects the organization’s independence and keeps its work tied to its mission. Technical, legal and certification decisions belong to specialists in AI, law, privacy and ethics, who will make up the board and its committees.
As a result, no single person decides whether an organization meets the CAICB standard.
Governance
- Incorporated under the federal Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act and registered in Alberta.
- Independent of government. CAICB is not a regulator and does not give legal advice.
- Guided by the Canadian laws and international standards listed on our frameworks page, including PIPEDA and ISO/IEC 42001.
Join the Board
CAICB is forming its board. We are looking for experienced people in AI, computer science, law, privacy, ethics and industry who want to help set a Canadian standard for trustworthy AI. In addition, two roles are open now: Director of Certification and Compliance, and Certification Analyst.
